Hands-on with NEAR Protocol, Cosmos, and Fluence

  • Starfish Mission 1535 Mission Street San Francisco United States (map)

What are the short-term and long-term goals to Decentralizing the Web?

Short term: Building decentralized applications people can use
Long term: Rebuild the web in open source + open state fashion

As we know, walled gardens (likes of Facebook, Google, Amazon,etc..) brought light to a lot of ongoing concerns namely,
+ Privacy violation
+ Lack of data ownership
+ User tracking
+ Non-transparent data usage
+ Security Breaches &
+ Lack of reliability on behalf of large web companies who own user data today

Web3 can potentially solve all of that. The applications of the future will be built in an Open State fashion, where we will have transparent personal data processing, high uptime, and security.

The path to mass adoption lies in building a 10x better experience. The development on the blockchain must be as easy as developing a NodeJS application; Using Web3 applications must be as easy as using Web2 applications.

In the session on Friday, Alex Skidanov, CEO & Co-founder at NEAR Protocol, will walk the audience through what’s required to reach mass adoption, and how the future can play out in both short-term and long-term.

Furthermore, Alex will perform a live coding session and walk the audience through NEAR DevNet and development experience demo.

About the speaker Alexander Skidanov

Alex started his professional career at Microsoft in 2009, then joined memSQL in 2011 as Engineer #1, where he worked for 5 years as Architect and Director of Engineering. He is a 2x ICPC medalist (gold in 2008 and bronze in 2005).
